How and When to Cancel Your Home Warranty Contract

How to cancel a home warranty contractHome warranty contracts can be incredibly useful but there can be a point when one no longer requires a home warranty. If that is the case, canceling a home warranty contract is a relatively easy and simple procedure. However, there are a few tips to remember when it comes to canceling a home warranty plan. For instance, it is important that you consider the current condition of your appliances before you cancel the contract.

In other words, if all the appliances in your home are relatively new, chances are that they won’t break down regularly, and a home warranty plan might not be necessary. Of course, a contract would be ideal for aging appliances and systems. Regardless, if you want to cancel a home warranty plan, follow the below steps.

Step 1: Contact a Representative.

Most home warranty companies have a website with contact information for customer support. Call the number on the website and inquire about canceling your plan. It shouldn’t take more than 10 days to cancel the contract but you may be required to pay a cancelation fee as well as some other fees. If a representative is not available, which is a rare situation, sending an email to the company might be the best way to get in touch with the company. Look for a “contact us” page or contact form on the company website.

Step 2: Fill in the Notice and Send it via a Courier.

Some home warranty companies required a signed form in order to cancel the contract. If you are unable to do this in person, one option would be to mail the form to the company. The office address can usually be found on the company’s website. But it’s important that you call the company and notify them of the pending cancelation notice before you send it. Don’t forget to keep the receipt in order to track the package in case it is lost or misplaced.

Step 3: Wait for the Company to Process the Form.

In most cases, it will take up to 10 days to fully process the form and cancel your subscription. Of course, that is not including the time it takes for the form to arrive at the office. For the quickest cancelation option, make sure to hire a fast courier; don’t send it by regular snail mail, because that could take weeks.

That’s it. You won’t have to worry about paying a home warranty fee on your home anymore.
